Two Projects

The projects give your eight weeks structure, but they also give you a reason to get out, explore Ireland, meet people and create things.

Carrick A Rede Rope Bridge
01 — Tourism Northern Ireland

Your main project is developed in collaboration with Tourism Northern Ireland.

You’ll receive an educational project brief and then:

  • Research the subject and develop ideas
  • Visit destinations across Northern Ireland
  • Meet and learn from local people
  • Explore how destinations use photography, video and social media
  • Gather your own photography and video
  • Develop your editing and digital storytelling skills
  • Bring everything together into your project
  • Present what you’ve created

02 — A Local Causeway Coast Project

Your second educational project brings things closer to home.

Each group explores a local organisation, attraction or tourism experience around Portrush and the Causeway Coast. The subject changes between programmes, so each group gets something different.

You’ll:

  • Meet local people
  • Research your subject
  • Develop ideas
  • Take photographs
  • Shoot and edit video
  • Explore social media and digital storytelling
  • Bring your ideas together into a finished educational project
Live Independently in Portrush

Spend eight weeks based in Portrush on the North Coast of Ireland on a gap year programme combining tourism, social media, photography, filmmaking, travel and independent living.

You’ll learn new skills through two educational projects while getting out and exploring Ireland rather than spending your gap semester sitting in a classroom.

You Don't Need Experience

You don’t need:

  • A fancy camera — your phone is part of your toolkit too
  • Video editing experience
  • Marketing knowledge
  • A plan to study tourism
  • To know how to fly a drone
  • To be sporty
  • To be an experienced traveller
  • To be the most outgoing person in the room

What helps?

Curiosity and a willingness to try things.

That could mean getting better photos from the phone already in your pocket, picking up a 4K camera for the first time, gaining your drone flying qualification, editing your first video, travelling somewhere in Europe with friends, cooking dinner for your apartment mates or simply becoming more comfortable doing things for yourself.

Four Nights. Anywhere in Europe.

During your eight weeks in Ireland, you’ll get four nights to plan your own trip somewhere in Europe with friends.
